Stories of hep C reinfection

Commissioned by Harm Reduction Victoria, Stories of Stigma and Discrimination is a participatory filmmaking project that I designed and delivered in 2023. The entire project was collaborative in nature; the entire cast and crew are members of the community of people who use drugs.

The project's initial concept emerged when Harm Reduction Victoria identified a need to understand the experiences of stigma and discrimination among injecting drug users when accessing healthcare. By understanding the experiences of people who inject drugs, HR Vic can better advocate for and educate health providers and governments on the needs. The stories featured in the film series all emerged from interviews with 16 community members. They were then adapted by the broader cast and crew to ensure anonymity and accessibility to a broad audience. The final project report is available here.

Stories of stigma and discrimination was a deeply participatory project that has engaged more than 20 community members in the process including a number who were previously unknown to Harm Reduction Victoria.

“I didn’t expect it to be so professional and Conor made it easy and made you feel so welcomed and he has a warm gentle personality and made me feel like I was someone that he has known for years and having someone that doesn’t judge you and makes you feel like you’re important.” - Project participant
